Alisa Krechetova, Master’s student at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, National Research Tomsk State University.
I received Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics in 2015. My research interest was focused on noun gender and the way it influences our perception of different objects and phenomena. Grammatical gender of nouns denoting the same things differs from one language to another, and personification usually correlates with gender, so the same objects are often personified differently depending on a culture. In this connection, it was interesting to study how personifications are translated when noun genders do not coincide in source and target languages.
Currently I am working at my Master’s thesis. The focus of this research is derivational models of abstract nouns in English and Russian. The research includes an experimental part, which is supposed to reveal the influence of morphological structure of nouns on word processing, as well as the peculiarities of processing abstract nouns.
Apart from studying, I teach English in a language center based at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, TSU.
